Hi! I'm looking for a shugart 851 8"

50-60Hz) or/and parts to change to correct version! A fixer or one in
good condition!Best regardsKenny Ottosson
Just curious--where is 110V 50Hz a common power distribution?
ALmost nowhere, but 110V (115V, 120V) 50Hz 8" floppy drives are quite
common in the UK. Many of my machiens use them
The point is that the spindle motor will run off 50Hz or 60Hz, it's jsut
the speed that differs. So if you take the (common US) 110V 60Hz drive
and change the pulley/belt it will run off 50hz mains stepped down to
110V. That stepping down can be done using the primary of the mains
tranformer an an autotransformer. Often the mains transformer has a pair
of 110V primray windings. The disk motor is in parallel with one, the
(110V AC) cooling fnas in paralell with the other. Or if there are 2
dirves, one motor may be in parallel with each winding. For US mains, the
whole lot gois in paralell across the mains. For European mains, the 2
windings are in series, they then form an autotransformer to give 110V or
so to the drive motors and fans.
This in turn means that the conversion kit between Europe and the US
consists of the small pulleys and belts, not the spindle motors too.
