I can believe that. Publishers are bastards :-).
I would rather pay a reasonable fee for an online database that
experienced continual updates. Until Michael makes something like
that, there's <http://www.old-computers.com>; I encourage people to
contribute to that site if they haven't already.
The problem is that most times when people adopt a subscriber model
for internet content their subscriber fees are so unreasonable that
they are exhorbitant. Things like online subscriptions costing more
than print subscriptions, but being bombarded with more invasive
advertising in the online version.
