I have
had better luck with usenet, but that is really dying.
Not from my perspective. My news server receives, on average, a
steady 900,000 (no typo) articles per month. That has remained steady
for the past year. Some of that is spam, but there's a lot less on
Usenet than in email, and most of it seems to be concentrated in
comp.lang.fortran more than anywhere else.
What I meant in "dying", was finding people that will take the time to step
away from there Key Board and make an effort to help. Making tapes, floppy
disks, HD images, some of which requires the real working hardware, this all
takes real time. In the 90's I was amazed may times what people would
do to just help someone out.
