The trick is to poke a tiny thermocouple into a plated through hole in one of the boards.
Then, the controller is measuring actual temperature. I tried having the thermocouple in
the air, and the boards got seriously fried.
I had planned to tape a thermocouple to the board, but putting it in a plated through hole
seems like an even better idea. For my own board designs, I can make sure to include a
hole of the right diameter for whatever thermocouple I use, at my best guess of an optimum
point on the board to measure temperature.
