Are there any AS/400 emulators out there?
Alternately, any baby AS/400 systems in the Columbus, OH area? I'm
asking for a friend.

I'm trying to remember how to get a OpenVMS/VAX Hobbyist license. I have
the media. I have an account number for Encompass US, I just don't remember
where to get the license.
Does anybody have a source or replacement for LA120 DECwriter III ribbons?
I've actually got about 8 "new old stock" ones, still shrink wrapped, but
all that I've tried are pretty much dried out despite the shrink wrap. They
barely make a mark on the paper, even with the little print impression lever
cranked all the way up.
Thanks,
Bob
I recently acquired 3 RK05j's that seem to have spent time in a barn as
well as having been used by a heavy smoker. I thoroughly cleaned and
de-gray-foamed them as well as putting in new absolute filters.
The first one came up after cleaning with no issues. Works great.
Number two spins up but the initial seek emits a sickening "klang" as the
voice coil drives hard to the limit (yes, the graticule lamp is working).
Any ideas?
The third drive initially had really ugly heads that never cleaned up to my
liking. I loaded a disk anyway and for about 5 seconds after the initial
head load all was okay. Then I heard the sound of the top head scouring
the disk.
So I'm thinking of buying replacement heads off of eBay. Apparently these
are the heads but not the steel tongues that they mount on.
So I have some questions for anyone on the list who may have changed their
heads.
1. How hard is it to mount the head in the tongue? Looks like just 2
screws.
2. How hard is it to remove/replace the tongue assembly? Looks like it
mounts with a couple of allen screws.
3. How hard is it to align the heads? I don't have a CE pack so I'll just
have to use a pack that works okay on the other drive.
4. Any sage advice or whatever?
Thanks for any and all help.
Marc
I have about 12 various models of Mac G4 towers. These were used for audio
recording and art production and were being tossed. Before I spend the time
to see what all is in each machine and their conditions I wanted to see if
there was any interest in the systems. If not I won't bother with them as I
have samples in my own collection already.
Be aware they are rather heavy for shipping. Systems are located in Houston,
TX.

I am currently in the Denver area for a couple of days, and came
across a guy with a bunch of stuff from the Digital Group (not DEC!).
He has a few packed boxes, pretty heavy, so I really do not know what
is there. Apparently he had struck a deal for the pile some time ago,
but the buyer backed out when the shipping quote was figured.
So anyway, it is probably unreasonable for the me to move the stuff to
California (Bay Area) when I continue my roadtrip on Tuesday (I will
be pretty loaded), but it is reasonable to think that I could haul the
stuff when heading home east in a couple of weeks, as I pass back
through the Denver area.
So - any interest in this stuff? He says there is a lot, including
some late model computer they made only four units of, before the bank
shut the business down. If there is interest, I will see if I can get
his to do an inventory and/or pictures (he is willing). I do not know
about the price - probably not too bad.
Let me know offlist ASAP!
