Hi,
Ever since I first saw them at the University where I worked in the late
80's and early 90's, I wished I had one to experiment with myself, but they
have neither gotten cheap nor plentiful over the years. My first computers
ran CP/M, SCO Unix, then SunOS on a SPARC-4/110.
So my 11/53 just arrived, and my 11/73 is on it's way, both in BA23 chassis.
Inventory of the 11/53 is:
KDJ11-D/S CPU
Dataram 4093 with 2MB RAM
RQDX3 controller
The power supply checks good, the cabinet is remarkably clean inside,
and I get the countdown from the console port, then it tries to boot
>from a TEAC drive I had that matched the smashed one that came with the
system. No network card in this one, but the 11/73 will have a Delqa
with it.
I'm pleased there are still so many links that haven't expired to
documentation, and nice web pages and youtube videos by others like
myself who have resurrected these systems.
I wish I hadn't thrown out all my MFM drives, years ago when I moved, since
I don't think I can do much more until the 11/73 with a hard drive shows up,
and that machine will have the Delqa card too.
I have some questions that I have either not been able to answer, or for
which I've found confusing answers.
- What are the rules for cards & slots in a BA23?
- If I wanted to get bsd2.11 running on either of these, do I need an
additional board with some kind of RTC, or some other hardware than I
already have? (I see comments about an MXV11-B, at least for 11/23 users?)
- I can't find a Dataram 4093 manual online. I might never need it, but I'd
like documentation for all the cards in my system.
- Is there some kind of diagnostics I can perhaps use PUTR to copy onto
a bootable floppy, that would do further hardware tests? I'm not even
clear if the ROM power-on memory test is thorough.
I've found useful references from hobyists working with similar hardware:

I have just collected one of these machines. I don't know a lot about them.
It seems they use a customized version of MS-DOS. Does anyone have a copy?
I have inspected the PSU in the base unit and there are no obviously swollen
capacitors, but it is 30 years old. Not sure if I should try applying power.

Rob
Afternoon all,
I need an SDI disk to test my MVII...largely to see why my KDA50 always
shows up as "offline" to VMS despite correct CSR and why I can NOT boot
VMS over the network...I always get a machine check or a DBL ERROR.
Small enough to hold 4.3BSD-Quasijarus should suffice for testing
purposes. If you're not willing to part with one for <$75 (price of an
RA72 on ebay) I can return it or work out a trade.
Thanks! I want to get all the tests on this KA630 done.

Hi! Good news! The S-100 bus extender PCBs have arrived! Here is your
chance to build your own S-100 bus extender!
The PCBs will be $20 each as per the usual arrangement. Shipping in the US
is $3 for a single PCB and $2 for each additional PCB. Shipping
internationally is $10 for a single PCB and $3 for each additional PCB.
This is for the bare basics USPS first class postage with no tracking or

I recently picked up the following cards at a Radio Rally and I don't
really need them, but thought they might be useful to someone.
1 x Oak VGA card. No Manual (but I think I have a table of switch
settings somewhere as I used to own one as well)
1 x Emulex Persyst IBM CGA Compatible Card with Printer Port. No
Composite out but has header on card. Boxed and with manual.
1 x Western Digital WD1002S-WX2 "Winchester" Controller Card. The
Manual for this is here:-

All Items truly untested, "sold as seen" as I don't have any real XT's
or an MFM hard disk to test with.
Pictures are on the Vintage Computer Forum but you will have to sign up

Oh and in case any one doesn't know, I am in Greater Manchester, England....

If anyone would like to sell their Mac Powerbook 160 or 180 to me for the
Media Archaeology Lab, please let me know! I'm hoping to demo an early
Hypercard project...
thanks, Lori

Hi all,
I just picked up a DECwriter II, and after the elation of receiving it, the reality is sinking in that I just don't have any more space for any new projects of this physical dimension.? As much as I'd love to have this (I learned on these in the 70's), I have to find a home for it.? I'm asking $100, which is less than half of what I laid out to acquire it.? Is there anyone with an interest who would be able to pick it up, or arrange a pickup, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area?
Dave
Hello,
ANyone know if mouser carries anything that'll work for this? I'm going to
try and make home-made cab kits for a DEUNA and DQQNA. I seem to have
found the connectors (to plug in to the berg and the AUI socket)
The things I need to grab next are: wire/cable and those fuses. As I need
to get caps and a thermistor from Mouser, i'd prefer 'em all from the same
place.
