Hmm, I have a pair of Mac SE's here, and was a bit surprised to find that
one of them has signatures in the rear of the case, but the other one
doesn't; does anyone know what dictated whether a machine had the
signatures or not? (I was actually surprised to see signatures at all, I
thought that went out with earlier models)
Anyway, the one with signatures is a SE with a single 800K drive and 20HSC
hard disk, last IC date I can see week 25 of 1988. There's also a sticker
on the chassis saying July 30th 1988.
The one without is a SE with dual 800K drives and a Quantum drive on a
bracket (which was possibly added later), last IC date I can see being week
01 of 1988.
In other words, what seems to be the later machine has them, and the
earlier one doesn't. Possibly cases from different plants, where one had
changed their tooling and one hadn't? Or maybe the "later" machine is
actually an earlier build but has had a system board replacement (with the
date sticker being the date of repair)?
Curious, anyway...
cheers
Jules
I ended up with an Elektronika-85 (also known as the MS-0585)that was
sold by a listmember a few weeks back. It's an uncanny clone of the Dec
Pro 350/380 both inside and out. I'm just givingit a basic inspection
at the moment and I'd like to test the power supply, I'm just unsure
what voltages / frequencies it wants and there are no labels anywhere
indicating what those might be.
My research on the 'net indicates that it's likely to be 220/240V (in
which case I'll need to get astep-up transformer), but I was wondering
if anyone here had any first-hand experience with this sort of thing.
Thanks as always,
Josh
Hi!? There have been several requests for another round of the S-100 Bus
Extender PCBs.? Since these are essential tools for any S-100 builder I
think we should get some more.? We need 20 PCB pre-orders so I can make a
manufacturing order.
The S-100 Bus Extender board is ready for ?production?.? If you would like
to get one or more of these very useful boards please do the new usual
pre-order.? I will set aside your board so you get them as soon as they
arrive.
Here is a link to S100computers.com website with information on the updated
S-100 Bus Extender board:
http://www.s100computers.com/My%20System%20Pages/Extender%20Board/Extender%2
0Board.htm
The PCBs will be $20 each as per the usual arrangement.? Shipping in the US
is $3 for a single PCB and $2 for each additional PCB.? Shipping
internationally is $10 for a single PCB and $3 for each additional PCB.?
This is for the bare basics USPS first class postage with no tracking or
insurance.? The builder assumes all risk of delivery as per usual
arrangement.
Please send a PayPal to LYNCHAJ at YAHOO.COM with the subject ?S-100 Bus
Extender? and I will reserve your board(s).?
Thanks and have a nice day!
Andrew Lynch
PS,? We are still doing another order for S-100 Buffered Prototyping board
bus and have 6 boards in the queue.? If you would like one or more S-100
Buffered Prototyping boards please let me know.? The pre-order arrangements
are identical to the others but please send them in a separate email so I
can keep things straight on this end.
Hi!
The S-100 80286 CPU PCBs have arrived and I have shipped all the pre-ordered
boards.?
The boards look great and the order has been a huge success!
There are only two (2) boards left in case anyone wants one.
I am really looking forward to the first reports of the S-100 80286 CPU
boards ?in the wild?.
This is going to be fun!? I hope you enjoy your new CPU boards!
Thanks and have a nice day!

One day I'll learn to type; till then I will just apologise from time to time for sending half composed messages (and using a rubbish email client). Sorry!
> -- Vax 1000 BA-23
Note that it's possible (probable?) that this is an rtVAX 1000, with a KA620 CPU board, and possibly no mass storage in the BA23.
The KA620 is closely related to the KA630 (MicroVAX II) with one small but significant difference.
The rtVAX family (not to be confusbed with the ftVAX) were sold to run DEC's distributed realtime OS, VAXELN, which could be network booted (or boot from disk). Some rtVAXes had slightly cut down memory management relative to ordinary VAXes, a "feature" which meant they'd never run VMS.
Some folk won't mind the distinction, others might.
VAXELN is an interesting piece of software in its own right but doesn't seem to be in the VMS Hobbyist program.
Regards
John
Just forwarding... email original sender if interested.

I have a couple of Sparc 10s, maybe a 20, and external components,
disks, tape drives (4mm, 8mm, QIC) that I need to dispose of from my
personal collection of stuff. Our county has an electronics recycling
drop off in about 10 days.
Some Sbus cards, maybe a CPU, maybe a graphics card or two (PCI).
Is there anyone in the Northern New Jersey area that would want this
stuff for free? Pretty close to NYC, too.

Hi All, I will do a detailed write-up on constructing/testing this board
when mine arrives. For those wanting to get an early start, a reminder, be
sure to use a mica insulator between the 5V regulator and the board (or as a
last resort a pair of small washers) . You do not want the traces in that
areaon the front of the board touching the heat sink/ground.
