I know it's not _quite_ 10 years old, but it's getting there. The principle
of attraction has worked and my IBM quad-PCMCIA card has attracted a couple
of hosts - a PS/2-E that it originally came out of. I have been to the IBM
support site - no concrete references to the PS-2/E. I have located reference
diskettes for all sorts of IBM-brand products, but not the 9533. It's
distinguishing features include a low-power design with one ISA slot for this
quad-PCMCIA card to minimize peripheral draw. Additionally, it uses a 2.5"
laptop disk (120Mb) and only has one serial port. As shipped from IBM, there
was an LCD panel for a monitor, but I've never seen that part in person, only
in old ads.
Does anyone have a disk image they can ship me, or a pointer to an image
somewhere? I'm thinking of turning this into a router box. I have the
PCMCIA NICs to do it with.
Thanks,
-ethan

I had meant to put this up earlier this month, but better late than never.
Is anyone here planning on being at the Dayton Hamvention? It is this
weekend (I'll be there Friday at 08:00 if I can help it).
If yes, please write me off-line and maybe we can make arrangements to
have a classiccmp get-together.
My memories of this question from last year was a collective and
deafening "No".

can anyone tell me where I might be able to find 1(one) ADM 5 or ADM 3 text terminal? Always wanted one, but they're hard to find and I would rather not pay the exorbident prices on ebay for one.
Also, has anyone here had any luck hooking one of them up to a unix/linux box?
It's been a while since I have picked-up any _digital_
computers, but I just could not resist this. I found
someone selling a Ohio Scientific Model 600 on eBay,
and when I went to check was it sold for, I discovered
that no one wanted to bid the $20 minimum bid.

So I asked for a picture of the computer to make sure it
wasn't just a baggie full of spare parts.
http://www.best.com/~dcoward/osi600.jpg
I paid for it and it arrived today. There seems to
be only one empty dip socket that looks like it should
not be empty. It looks like the key caps for the numbers
were removed on purpose. Without taking it apart, I can
see one ROM labeled "BASIC 3", and two EPROMS labeled
"BASIC 4 modified 12/21/81" and "SYN 600 MOD".
I found one web site that also calls this a SuperBoard II.
The main board says:
"Ohio Scientific Model 600 CPU @1978 Rev B"
The large daughter board says:
"@1980 AARDVARK". And it contains a MC6821 PIA.
The small daughter board contains three 2716s labeled
"REV 94 I", "REV 94 II", and "REV 94 III".
All in all it looks to be in very good condition,
but powering this up is going to have to wait. My
wife wants my current projects off the dinner table
and the analog flight simulator and the paper tape
punches out of the dining room.

I've used it since the early '80's but my work has hovered over the low-end
capabilities of the language. Now that it's obsolete, I'm trying to make up
for all the stuff I didn't learn when it was mainstream. I've had people
tell me about features I've never even read about, and there are plenty of
them that I haven't used and HAVE read about. It's pretty simple if not
compact, to do everything with logic equations, and that's what I've always
done. Now I'm trying to catch up on the built-in state-machine dialects.
They use several constructs which have carried forward, somewhat, into
Verilog and VHDL, but not in the same way or with the same syntax as PALASM.
>>
It occured to me that the quite modern and today mainstream language Abel
has somewhat similar constructs, and is part of most modern electronic CAD
systems. While having retained quite some similarity with PALASM, it may be
closer to today's tools like VHDL.

OK, since I now have two pieces of equipment I need to get a decent
soldering iron to work on, I'm wondering if people could make any
recommendations. I'm needing it for my PDP-8/m front panel, and for the DEC
VR260 I want to revive. I'll probably pick it up from Fry's this weekend.
I'm thinking I want a WES50 Weller Soldering Station, as it looks like a
good balance between cheapness and high-end. Of course anything would be a
good replacement for the el'cheapo 20 year old Radio Shack Soldering Iron
I've currently got :^) I've got to admit that the WSD80 looks nice though.
Oh, in researching this I ran across this web page that might be of interest
to people, "Basic Soldering FAQ"

Do you know how much shipping will be?
Does someone on the list have any knowledge about the DEC AUI terminator
and loopback plugs.
terminator p/n 12-22196-01
loopback p/n 12-22196-02
Both of these only have 6 pins, shown below with their signals:
3 TX+
5 RX+
6 +12v return
10 TX-
12 RX-
13 +12v
I tried to determined how they are wired with a VOM, but even on the
Rx20k scale, I could not find any continuity among the pins.
TIA
Mike
