asking for oddball workstations, no?
Looks like they will run pa-risc Linux. And many came with color
1024x768 displays.
Where are they located?
Perhaps they are just not old enough?

Yes. These are the more recent HP - Apollo workstations. The older
Apollo workstations people are interested in are the workstations
prior to the DN3000. Although even the DN3000's are becoming scarce
now.
Looks like they will run pa-risc Linux. And many came
with color
1024x768 displays.
The 400's are 68040 (or was it 68050) based. They will run NetBSD,
DomainOS and probably some version of HPUX. I ran one as a glorified
X-Term for a couple of years using OpenBSD as the underlying OS.
Seemed to work quite well but X tunnelled through ssh was rather
painful!
AFAIK the 700's are PA Risk. I seem to remember a friend installing
NextSTEP on one at some stage in the past. I guess there is also a
NetBSD port and a version of HPUX. They will not run DomainOS and
hence are not true Apollos (not that I am biased or anything).

Boot floppies are not likely easy to find, even *rare* on eBay.

I think the 715's are just PA-RISC boxes though rather than proper Apollos, so
they're nowhere near as interesting! :)

I don't know much about them... I picked them up instead of having
the dumpster get them. Looks like the 715 are PA/RISC and have been
mostly gutted. I have the drives etc. but they have no memory. I just
popped open one 400 and it appears complete and in good condition. It
had an HP product configuration sheet on the top with a lot of
information. I can't boot it at the moment as I don't have an RGB cable.

open one 400 and it appears complete and in good condition. It had an HP

collect, but its the more exotic graphics workstations made by
competitors that I find more interesting.
I know that HP made machines to compete with SGI at this time, but since
HP had the habit of giving all their machines completely unrememberable
names like the PX400GQ (I'm making that up, but its similar to what
they did with their model numers), its hard to know what HP had at this
timeframe without being an HP historian.
I also know that Sun has a line of 3D graphics accelerators of the
period that were built with engineers cribbed from E&S and have some
interesting antialiasing features. I think Dave Naigle was one of the
principle engineers in the early 90s, don't know if he still works
there or not.
Then there are more interesting machines like the Ardent/Stellar/
Stardent workstations and the graphics workstations made by Kubota.
Anyone have some of these exotica in their collection?

One of the 400s is in a tower configuration, the more complete one is
in a "desktop" form.
