I have to say that it's been an adventure. I'm almost done moving everything
(computer wise...the house is next summer). Just took a load of 12 pallets up to the new
place (I could have fit 14 in the truck but I had figured the truck from previous moves
would only hold 10-12 and I'd only made 12 ready).
I put some picture up of how everything looks after I unloaded the truck. The link is
here (there's before and after pictures of the shop...just click on "Almost
Moved" for the "after"):

of the "basement" where I had moved all of the totes a few weeks ago to make
enough space for everything else because there's not too much to see other than about
100 totes. ;-)
BTW, there's still stuff to be claimed before it goes to be scrapped including a lot
of uVAXen (including a VAX 4000/700 I just unearthed today), uPDP-11s, 11/34s, 11/44s, a
Sun 4/110, DEC Rainbows and a DEC Robin that I "discovered". The final weekend
for picking this stuff up is 10/19 and 10/20. I'm taking the final load up on 10/26.
Anything after that will be scrapped the following week (there's some exceptions for
folks that are picking up/shipping some *big* stuff...they know who they are and don't
have to panic). So if anyone wants anything let me know (no I won't ship
anything...it defeats the purpose).

Will you ship /parts/? I could use some parts of some of those systems,

Hi Guy,
I would love the 4/110 and some VAX gear but, I can't afford to buy
old computers right now but, if you end up to the point of needing stuff
gone or scrapped let me know. I have a large hatchback that can fit a
lot. I would certainly rescue as much as much DEC and Sun bits as will
fit. It is almost $50 in gas to get to you and back again so, I can only
afford one trip.

I'm debating whether I would like to drive up there from Riverside. I really
don't like driving long distances and I would need to see if my neighbor can take care
of my dogs, but a PDP-11/44 is somewhat interesting.

Even 400 Hz can be obtained this way, for those of you with CDC 6000 series retrocomputing
requirements.

MicroVAX 3100s are also fairly easy to acquire and make great
"starter" VAXen.

The microVAXen and later machines haven't caught my interest yet. A friend of mine

The 4000/700 is the first Vax that anyone's shown any interest in. There are other
Vaxen of that ilk (same sized cabinet as the 4000/700). Hmm.
Oh, man, that hurts to hear. I wish I was a lot closer, because I'd let that stuff
sit in my sea containers rather than going to scrap. :(

That reminds me of once when I was crawling through a
surplus yard of mostly military surplus stuff. I found a FIRE TRUCK under a pile of stuff,
and I had walked by it 2 or 3 times before I saw it!
That happened to me as well, up in Ontario. Dan and I were pulling a
rather rusty Hitachi AS/6 (aka M180) mainframe from a trailer, along
with all the other rusty goodies that went with it. Inside another
trailer, not 100 feet away buried under a pile of crap was indeed a
fire truck - a classy 1920s looking thing.

Hypothetically speaking, if a lift gate truck magically appeared at the storage site in a
couple if weekends, how big would it have to be to haul away all of the unwanted computer
hardware?

uVaxen...no one has shown *any* interest in them, so it's off to the scrapper. :-(

I always get a 26' truck with a "rail lift" (vs "tuck under").
The major impact for me is the size of the lift gate (and how it operates). I just get a
bit nervous about smaller lift gates.
That being said however, there's not a lot of big stuff (especially if you broke down
the pallets) left, so probably a 16' would be more than enough and now that I think
about it (unless you *really* wanted some of the racks) it might all fit in a big pickup
truck (ie 8' bed) or cargo van. There's a lot more than that but a lot is well
and truly "junk".
