A friend of mine has a few 9-track tapes (probably 6,250bpi, Unix)
that he wants transferred to modern media. I used to refer people to
Sellam Ismail's VintageTech for this sort of thing, but it appears
that's no longer around.
Can anybody recommend another place providing this service? I'm
pretty sure my friend wouldn't mind a reasonable fee to cover the
transfer & shipping, etc. He's in NYC.

Yes--but a word of caution. Success rate depends to a great extent on
the age and brand of cartridge. For example, we've had miserable
experiences with 80s "Scotch" brand DC600-type carts, but no such
problems with "3M" branded ones in the same batch. Go figure.

Hi Richard,
Sorry for not replying earlier--I've been up to my ears in work.
At any rate, let's start with evaluating exactly what you have. I'd
like to see one of the tapes that you believe to be in the worst
condition of the lot. No charge--I'd like to see what's involved in
getting these things into a readable state.
Pardon the caution, but I've received some pretty terrible stuff over
the years and have learned my lessons.
