His main complaint about not wanting to sell them under $450 seems to
stem from his perceived difficulty in shipping them, which I can
understand completely (as I have to ship a lot of stuff I sell).
Or tell him you'll offer him double what his scrapper will pay for the
systems, and offer to pick them up yourself.

an offer anyway, but this guy seems to think he's sitting on gold
bars.

With gold at $1200 an ounce he is probably sitting on some money in scrap. I
am kind of curious how much the gold value is on stuff that old. My local
scapper gets a little sensitive if he thinks something has gold in it,
otherwise I can get anything ancient for next to nothing (well depending who
is running the shop when I show up).
So one guy says $100 each is a good deal, another said CPU and RAM is
something like $200-300. Going by that maybe he isn't completely nuts in
pricing considering he would have some time and money in packaging them up.
When I see something listed at $200 and I can get it for $20 that's a bit
crazy, this isn't 10x the going rate.
Still I don't want one, so they are worthless to me.

I would expect no more than $5/lb (probably less) for that era of board
or about $5 or less per board in scrap value. The rest of the chassis,
maybe $5 in value without spending a lot in labor to separate the metals
out.

It depends, in part on what is in them. I'm not sure what an /84
power-supply goes for. The CPU and RAM is down to about $200-300 I
believe (last I looked they were surprisingly cheap). I didn't
bother to take a look at what the boards were in the unit listed, as
my /73, /23+, and /44 will do all I need (assuming the /44 still
works, I haven't had time to start the work needed to test it out,
maybe next winter).
