At the moment I have one of these:

I find OK, but sometimes it gets in the way of the soldering iron and it
isn't that easy to move it to a position and have it actually stay there.

Yes, I have one pretty much like that in the lab at work and I use it a
lot. ?The optical quality is fine for what I do with it and life would
certainly be much harder without.

Yes,
I think I have the same, bought it moth ago, and I'm
pretty happy with it.
However, this little LED light is nice for checking out something,
if you like to solder under the microscope, get more lights from the
side ...

I have a similar stereo microscope but have never
used it for soldering. I do use it to read the tiny
surface mount resistor values.

I use a B&L stereo zoom microscope for inspection, but have never used
it for soldering. That is, after soldering in, say, a TQFP, I'll use it
to examine for misregistration and solder bridges. But I can't imagine
soldering under it.
For that, where normal vision doesn't suffice, I use a head-mounted
binocular loupe. Seems to work just fine.

I've done two SMD assembly projects, both with 0603 size capacitors, and with sub-mm
lead pitch IC packages. Both have been done with magnifiers and bright lights. Also
liquid flux to go along with fine solder and a fine-tipped soldering iron (Weller WTCPS
with PTS tip).
Before the second project, I inherited a microscope like the one you showed, which I used
for inspection. And for a few bits of rework. I found it hard to get the hand-eye
coordination correct working through the microscope, so I didn't use it for assembly.
If I had to (even finer work) I'd have to learn that skill; obviously it can be done
but it didn't come naturally and so far it wasn't needed.

I've done
thousands of chips using a microscope. Anything
down to SOIC size (1.27mm lead pitch) I can do quite nicely
without aids. But, SSOP and the big flat packs benefit
greatly from magnification. A steady table, so the
microscope doesn't bounce is quite important, too. I've
done down to 0.4mm lead pitch on some chips that are beyond
the capability of our P&P machine by hand with the microscope.

I have high 5 figures invested into a home soldering lab. I use a
digital video scope now, however for 5-6 years before that, I used this
scope nearly every day for mostly 0402/.5 mm pitch soldering and repair:

The combination with swing arm allows me to move the scope anywhere on
my work bench and gives a use-able work height of up to 18 inches
underneath.
I highly recommend it.

I have an old Olympus stereo-zoom microscope at home. It
works quite well. I have one of those Chinese microscopes
at work, but it is a different one than the amazon link.
They indicate a 9" working distance, which is really great.
Mine have about a 4" working distance, which is fine as long
as the light, etc. don't interfere. Not sure that gooseneck
thing is really adequate. I made my own lights with 8 white
LEDs, resistors, a wall wart power supply, and a ring of PC
board material. One possible problem with the 9" working
distance is the eyepieces might be too high for comfort.
You might end up having to use a lowered table for it.
