I suspect it
is off either a character terminal or an X-terminal. If I can't find
anything about the protocol the plan will be to replace the controller,
Protocol would be described in the service manual for an earlier
terminal, but I've never seen a service manual for any of the X
terminals. (Not even one for any brand of X terminal, not just the
Tektronix ones! I'm sure they exist, but I haven't seen one.)

As already noted, the VT220 didn't do ReGIS, but it did have a
downloadable font capability that could allow you to get some
semblance of a picture on the screen.

I know back in the day that the VT220 had downloadable fonts, and we
had VT220s at work attached to VMS, Ultrix (and later, RSTS) machines,
but I don't remember much in the way of font files for downloading.
I've read the recent stuff that documents the pixel stretch, etc., and
it's fascinating, and I just found this for the vt320...

of this stuff from when we used terminals every day.
Did anyone here ever fiddle with VT220 downloadable fonts?

I will probably workover that gif320 program to create a VT220 version.
I was planning on doing this anyway :), but it's easier to work with
someone else's source as a starting point.

Hacked this code to emit VT220 ESC sequences, but my VT220 emulator
isn't honoring the downloaded font.
I can send source to someone who'd like to try it on a real VT220 and
see how it works. (I don't have one at my house, they're all at the
warehouse and it's pretty hot down there in the summer so I don't
spend much time there until it starts to cool off again.)
