Would this be caused by an electrical surge through the device or an EMP
kind of like in a nuclear explosion?
Worse still, it can damage
semiconductors all over the instrument!

Ok, was this not good to do to my Mac before? When I got the new P/S
board, it came with some "fool-proof" instructions, including using a wire
with two alligator clamps to attach the blade of a long flat-head
screwdriver to ground. Wiggle...wiggle..wiggle......SSSSNNNNAAAAPPPP! And
all was safe....
My Mac Plus still works just fine; is there something built into the Mac
to take this kind of punishment? Or was that parts reconditioner hoping
I'd be back for some other new parts sooner than I would have been...

On one of the Kaypro's, there's a pin sticking up marked "ground",

next to the flyback trans. Would this be there specifically for
discharging the CRT via the screwdriver-under-the-suction-cup method?
