So, after connecting the H8571-B to the VAX db9 bulkhead, and then fabbing an H8571-J (mmj
to db9) connector, and a straight (the only kind) MMJ cable, I have comms from the UVax II
to a pc com port. The only problem is, it appears that the system has a QxSS card, and
the only time I have any communication between the serial console and the system is when I
Halt it with the front panel button (or send a break signal from the PC). This gives me
the SRM console (>>> dead sergeant) prompt, and allows me to type "c"
to continue, but then immediately reverts back to the graphics console port for output,
which I have nothing to connect to.
The SRM console seems to be limited, it doesn't recognize "SET CONSOLE
SERIAL", it returns an "?18 INV DGT" most other commands return "?17
ILL CMD". if I try to tell it to boot from a disk (such as dua0) with boot/r5:1 dua0
I get "?15 CORRPTN" after a short while.
Any ideas on how to get this vax to boot with a serial console without having to pull the
QxSS boards out?

MMJ adapters work fine with the KA630/650/655

if you use the MMJ adapter that is specific for that purpose.
OK. Then it should
work - in theory. (I googled H8751-B and didn't find
any substantial information like a pinout.) But obviously it doesn't
work in practice. So - at least for me - thats the point where I heat my
soldering iron and solder a cable where I _know_ that it has the
correct wiring. Getting out a meter and mesuring the actual wiring of
the MMJ setup is a good idea also.
