My view is that a lot of medics have got it wrong.
They try to give
a person the longest possible life, what they should do is give the
person the most enjoyable life.
Ideally, I agree with you.
However, it is much harder to measure enjoyment than length, and the
blame-throwing culture the West has developed very much prefers
objectively measurable metrics when someone might be held responsible
for something.
So I can understand why it's happened.
That said, I do ignore the medics sometimes. I spoke with a dietitian,
once, who told me (and I already knew) that the fat level in my diet
was elevating my risk of circulatory system issues. I had decided that
in that case I was willing to accept a shorter life expectation for the
sake of routinely enjoying food more. I really cannot fault you for
living as you enjoy even if it does reduce your life expectancy.
