If I send this entire list to the recyclers to watch out for, which items on
this list of 73 things are NOT wanted?
It would be hard to say any of them are NOT wanted universally, but if
you're looking to prioritize things:
- Anything with a PDP is a good priority, possibly slightly less so
for PDP-11s since they're still so thick on the ground (but also
not hard to convince people to take). Unibus PDP-11s (the ones
with switches and lights on the front panel) are a lot harder to
find, so they can be pretty desirable.
- Early VAXen (anything starting with VAX-11) are pretty rare and
worth saving. Later large VAX models (like the 7000/10000) are
similarly rare, but you might have a harder time convincing
someone to take them because of the size and power and a slightly
lower "awesome" factor.
- Alphas are somewhat less desirable, but they still see a lot of
action on eBay because they're still in a lot of existing
installations.
- Terminals are always nice to save, but most people I know have a
pile of them that's already too big. I wouldn't mind having one
more, and there are certainly museums and other organizations that
can make use of them for displays. The graphics monitors (VRxxx)
are hard to find these days, and it's always nice if they come
with a graphics terminal (like a VS240, which says VT240 on the
front). Here's an example of the latter, which is nice to save:

Those are my 2 cents, and they do reflect my personal biases. Other
folks have their own criteria.
