I was going through some of my old equipment and
decided to see if my
old DDS autochanger still worked.

DDS and working is paradox. There is no working DDS. (Working in the
sense of "You can read back what you have written onto it.")
Don't waste your time with a DDS drive. Trash ist and you are done.

Goo removal: Try with acetone or benzine. (petroleum aether? Don't know
the english word.) Be carefull with acetone. It will dissolve many
plastics.
