No, I hate [ebay] because it defrauded me in
2005.
Yet amazingly, lots of people buy from it all the time and aren't
defrauded.
Indeed. Knock on wood, but so far I've never been seriously defrauded on
E-bay. The one time I was a little disapointed was when an HP9826 came
with considerable case damage. The seller claimed it happeend in the
post, I am not convinced (it was quite well packed, and I think I could
see evidence of the damage in the E-bay picturesm once I knew what to
look for). But I wasn't _very_ disapointed, the machine had a fairly
uncommon expansion card (ROM HPL) in it, all the PCBs, the disk drive,
and the CRT were fine. The machine now works fine, it just looks a little
ropey.
On all other occasions I've been very happy with what I've bought. Of
course I realise I am buying 20, 30, or 40 year old electronics. It's not
going to look like it just came out of the factory. Screws, etc, may well
be missing. It may not work properly. Actually, most of the time, the
units I buy are complete (right down to the case screws), and many times
they work fine, or need very minor repairs.
I have never received nothing, received an empty box, a machine with
major parts missing, or anything like that. Maybe I've just been very
lucky, but somehow I doubt that.
Have you ever been defrauded *outside* of ebay? Did you then draw the
conclusion that you'll never engage in an economic transaction again?
FWIW, I've been cheated more times outside E-bay than on E-bay. Of course
I've been involved in many more of the former deals than the latter.
