Duh again! It's a 4951B.

The pod with that number sits on top (in front ?) of
the unit so at a fast
glance that was the number I saw; to see the number of the unit you have to
remove the pod and flip out the keyboard.
Yep. There are several different pods - RS232, RS423, RS449...
It's good to know exactly which pod when shopping for those. I don't
recall seeing too many loose pods, just ones attached to whole units.
One handy thing about the HP units - unlike the TU58, the HP 4951s can
format a tape.
