Yeah -- Zilog apparently forgot to go out of business and has been doing
the same thing (plus new versions of the same thing) for 35+ years.
And 5V DIP 74xx00 series chips are only occasionally difficult to find
(for the less popular numbers), but 3.3V SOIC versions are made by the
bazillions and cheaper than ever (not to mention faster -- and I've still
been using bypass caps with CMOS versions but do you really have to?).
You can build the same old designs pretty much the same old way...
