Yes, I'm a graphics guy. I remember that Stardent; it had an
interesting "Z blt" whereby it would blt an image and an associated Z
buffer chunk that would be put through the Z buffer compare operation.
The result was that you could render a high quality phong sphere to
external memory and then Z blt it all over the place for high quality
molecular modelling. Pretty cool, although I don't know what other
applications could have used the feature beyond molecular modelling.
