The people tinkering with 8 bit micros are using NOS
parts
which will all dry up in our lifetimes.
Nope, not a chance. 50 years from now we will still be digging up
tubes and trays of NOS 8-bit microprocessors and related parts. Sure,
a very small percentage of oddball chips will dry up (some are well on
their way already), but all the off the shelf parts we know and love
will still be around after we have all been buried.
The same has always been said about tubes. Well, the great dry up has
not yet occurred, with cache after cache of "drying up" types popping
up every year. The audiophools are trying their best to grab all the
old 12AX7s they can, but one must realize that *billions* of these
critters were produced by the tube manufacturers.
