You see so many items like this listed as
"refurbished". One of these
days I am going to ask one of these sellers what they actually do to
"refurbish" their items, it would be interesting to see what they say.
What we used to know as "refurbished" now seems to go by the term
"remanufactured". In other words, the thing went back to the
manufacturer (ideal) or service depot, where any worn or faulthy
parts were replaced with new items and the unit brought up to
essentially new operating condition--what we used to call
"refurbished".
I get really irritated when I see "refurbished" used in conjusction
with things such as SDRAM memory. What the heck was done?
Is "furbish"/"refurbish" one of those pairs where both words mean the
same thing. Both appear to mean "renovate" (which, strictly speaking
means "to make new again").
