IMHO a more important factor is that our application
software is
written for keyboard input, with varying support for mouse input.
Really? Because I find that application software favors the mouse,
i.e. keyboard shortcuts/navigation are often broken or missing.
Regarding touchscreen devices, yes, I agree that mice
are on their way out.
Really? Because moving from the screen to the keyboard with my hand
is a *huge* distance compared to moving my hand to the left from the
keyboard (yes, I'm right handed but left mouse due to RSI).
For the existing apps that are mouse-centric, I see touchscreens
replacing them, but for things that are text-centric I don't see that
as a good transition.
