How feasible would it be to replace the 3.5" drive
of a USB disk with a
5-1/4" one?

Thats what I was wondering. Most of the USB stuff isn't breaking new
ground, just tacking USB into the middle of older designs, and don't most
motherboards still accept both types of floppy?
