Not strictly related, but this reminded me of the IDE adapter plans for
Qbus and UNIBUS that were floating around some years back.

I haven't unpacked any of the files there, so I couldn't say how
complete a solution it is. But there are circuit diagrams, and the
original authors claim to have gone the extra mile, and include patches
to get several DEC OSes running.

Either way an IDE interface should give you a path to using Compact
Flash, in terms of moving beyond rotating media...
