If you don't mind the asking, why that particular card? It can't be for
the utility--1K isn't enough to do much in. You could always wire one up
yourself--I think Andrew did some S100 prototype cards. Like a lot of
other folks, I have a barrel of 2Kx8 SRAMs here.
Heh, 1K seems like plenty to me, when the only I/O method is a bank of 24
toggle switches and 30 LEDs. ;-)
Really though, while that's true, it's more about originality. The goal
here is to set the machine back to where it was when it was first built
from a kit, in 1975 or so. The rest of it is still
pretty much intact, save
the "B" PSU mods. Not only would those changes be
very hard to revert, but
they both period-correct -and- genuine MITS parts.
In fact - though I need to confirm this - this kit may have been ordered
new with the B option PSU. I say this, as I know fully well who built the
machine, and I'm very familiar with this individuals general level of
workmanship. I'll be kind and say that it's known to be "a little
slipshod". But the work done installing the B mod, particularly the square
hole cut in the case for the fan, look like factory work to me.
Once the restoration is complete, I'll contact him and see what he
remembers about the machine's early days. One thing four sure, the
original 1K RAM board is lost to time.. he mentioned that.
