That probably has to do with the recycling trends in
this country. ?A
lot of recyclers won't take styrene in any form and will scorn bags
of styrene foam in any quantity, so HDPE reigns supreme.
Most styrene is the expanded type (styrofoam and such), so is a pain
in the ass to transport - very expensive. Most recyclers do not want
to invest money into dedicated compacting equipment just for styrene.
They would loose their shirts.
