I fired up my 7200 the other day. I wanted to try to
recover an old floppy
from a client who claimed it had some Illustrator artwork on it. The disk
had the 'HD' (CH) logo but I couldn't read it in either of two HD Mac drives
of that era.
What floppy disk recovery / probing tools might I use to see
if I can recover the artwork?
Does it pop up saying the disk needs to be initialized? Are you sure it's
HFS?
An HFS+ floppy will not be readable in Macs running 8.0 or earlier, and
obviously a FAT floppy requires PC File Exchange.
Otherwise you might see if Disk Copy can at least image it, and then look
at whatever image it spits back out.
My old IIci wouldn't boot when I took it from
storage, with or
without its PPC add-on card. I even tried booting it with the 7200's
drive. Just a question-mark disk icon.
I'm not surprised the IIci wouldn't boot the 7200's drive. I imagine the
HD driver is not compatible.
