That's odd. They told me that to receive amateur
television you either
needed an amateur license or a broadcast TV license. But that you
couldn't do so (legally) with no license at all.
I was going by an article I read in a ham radio mag a few years ago.
However, this could be a complicated issue :-)
The general public is allowed, I think, to receive transmisions from
radio amateurs without any licence, but I don't know if tv is
specifically mentioned, or excluded. According to the back of my
tv licence the licence is _specifically_ for equipment for receiving
television programmes. As amateurs are forbidden to broadcast as such,
and may only direct transmissions to a specific station or stations,
I would argue that their transmissions constitute communications, not
programmes. However this is the sort of thing lawers love to argue
about. I suspect that once again we have an issue where if you ask
two different officials you'll get two different answers!
