Chill out. Disclosure: I completely agree with the analysis expressed in this sig.
A sig is a 'free area' for any of us to express an opinion. If I said in the body
of a post "Intel is the Satan of computing, stifling innovation and profiting from it
handsomely" that would certainly be controversial, but not necessarily out of scope
for this list. On the other hand, a sig is fair game. Want to talk about Wicca or Coke
vs. Pepsi or some such? Stick it in your sig, and kindred spirits will find you.
Moreover, the expression of disdain for political correctness is quite appropriate to this
list, where e.g. we question the decisions made by for-profit corporations that often make
our tasks as collectors and historians more burdensome than they need be. It also
reflects a level of intellectual integrity that rejects the groupthink that stifles
innovation in nearly all dimensions, whether technological or social.
In sum: dude, chill out. You want to really get some folks riled? Let's talk CISC
vs. RISC or (dare I say it?) which is the best editor. There we can polish a turd, not
just look for its clean end -- Ian
