One method I haven't seen discussed is to use a steam cleaner. I did
this to successfully remove masking tape residue, but it was fairly
time consuming. However, it had the advantage that it didn't involve
any solvents. Obviously, significant heat and moisture can be applied
when cleaning with steam, so that is something to consider. I removed
metal covers from a Tektronix terminal cabinet in order to clean them
with the steam cleaner. I also used it to clean a CDC display console
cabinet.
