Similar deal with slide rules. Adjusted for inflation, they were expensive
devices. My dads old Hemmi(same as a Post 1461, pocket version of the Versalog), adjusted
for inflation, went for about $500 in modern terms.
Oh, haven't though about it, but I guess it took a bit of craftsmanship
back then to get them accurate and usable. I'll definitely hang on to my
fathers slide rule.. heck I might even learn how to use it.
Though, I find if you can connect it to something historical that they know about and
understand, then they *really* get it.
That is also true. I have a alpha rack which used to be part of a
Top-500 computer. Not just the model, but the actual computer.
Supercomputers is something that people "understand".
