This box was upgraded to the 'B' supply - so
it has one very large xfmr in
it, with three secondaries. The +8V line is rectified by a 35A part, into a
95,000uF computer-grade cap.
The +/-18V lines use a modern bridge, and 4400uF of new low-ESR filter caps
at the inputs. Regulation is by new LM7818 / 7918 1.5A regs, w/heat sinks,
and 22uF + 0.47uF (film) bypass at the outputs.
So it's about as modernized as it's gonna get, while still using the legacy
transformer.. you still consider that under-rated?
Well, I can't say--I dropped using the 8800 in favor of an IMSAI 8080 at
the time and then later, my Integrand box.
So the 8800 has been on the shelf all this time. I haven't even tried
powering it up in perhaps 20-25 years.
