It seems that some adhesives used to bind the implosion protection sheet
over the face of the CRT decompose and/or have mold grow on them (or
something along those lines) over time. Some people have had good luck
repairing them. I have a few in that state, but haven't attempted a repair yet.

Every VR201 I've seen in the past few years has
had the "screen
rot" problem. :-(
Screen rot is repairable, at least in many cases (I do not
know about the VR201 specifically). So even with screen rot, I'd still
like to find one!
