I did that and received no reply. I also offered to pay for the
system and have liability transfered to me, and giving them a paper
trail. I also offered to run it through a certified scrapper. The
system might still be there waiting for someone to decide.
I first noticed this about ten years ago, but companies were more flexible then.

All the owner needed to to do deal with potential liability is to have you
sign a statement that you would dispose of it in accordance with all
applicable laws and regulations. ?The "dispose" part might not occur until
*many* years later, but that doesn't matter.
