At the time I wasn't into old computers, only the
latest and greatest. As
such, core memory seemed incredibly ancient.
At the time, it was!
We were on an Aircraft
Carrier, and to the best of our knowledge nothing was still using core.
I would think that any core based stuff would be upgraded for aircraft
duty, as the stuff tends to be heavy (wire, lots of it).
There was a place in Milwaukee still making core for the military in the
late 1980s.
