Actually I think this is what happens normally when you run this
algorithm as it is designed to keep all the different drives moving
forward to merge the data onto destination drives. The point of the
algorithm is to avoid moving backwards on the tape, IIRC.
Switches and knobs on the panel-of-lights are a plus.
Cue the SAGE racks! Action!
