I tried 9600 as well without any luck. I think it is the cable, I *always*
have trouble with serial cables. At the moment I have a cable with pins 2
and 3 crossed over and pins 7 and 8 on the PC side shorted together. I may
have to crack open my breakout box to sort this out.

Yes. You should be able to see all the boot diagnostic messages, as well
as the
firmware and the OS (if installed). Try 9600 8/n/1
