Actually, when I got my first field service job servicing word processors,
it was explained to me that the whale oil (in a *tiny* bottle with applicator
needle) was for lubricating the print hammer assemblies on Qume and Diablo daisy-wheel
printers. That was in 1981. I've never seen it before
or since. . . .
