Have a '286 PC? I have a pick and place
system that uses
a massive proprietary board that is essentially a 286 PC,
but with lots of EPROM and battery-backed static RAM.
I got rid of all my 286 gear almost 20 years ago, and now
worry just a little about spares.

I do have some '286 systems, but it sounds like a stock AT
clone wouldn't really be useful as a replacement for what
you have there.
No, of course, the BOARD would not be useful, except as a
donor for parts. There are a number of socketed parts, as
wll as a bunch of other '286 support chips.
I'd definitely back up those EPROMs and the BIOS
though;
most everything else could probably be replaced.
Yeah, I'm almost afraid to
mess with it, but I really SHOULD
back up the EPROMS. There is no "BIOS", just the code in
the EPROMS. This is a very custom Yamaha "robot controller".
