Why not take a 5V 5A supply and adjoin to it
a simple transformer from
mains to 9VAC? (There probably is a reason, but I sure don't see it in
what you wrote.)
By creating the design in this way, I'm shouldering 100% of
the
liability on the design. While a company I contract might do
essentially the same thing, I feel more comfortable from a liability
standpoint.
I am primarily asking for ideas on creating a solution I can contract
for assembly. I know many times on this group, we're building one-offs
or limited runs for hobbyists who could put it all together themselves.
This is different, as it's for the masses (small though they may be).
So, it's marginally commercial, to which I apologize, but in some
respects, it preservation, as when the cheap 64 brick goes, it takes all
the custom ICs with it.
