It's not as if Unix doesn't offer sophisticated versioning systems -
and several flavours of versioning filesystems if you are so
inclined. I do not think it need be an overloading of filenames,
though. Version control has moved on significantly since 1980...
I for one would love a proper versioning filesystem like the VMS
ODS-2 filesystem! It's one of the many reasons VMS is my favorite OS.
