I've seen this sort of problem with my HP laser printer as well.
Things start getting wiggy with streaks and whatnot. There seems to
be plenty of toner left in the cartridge (as opposed to outright
missing toner on a printed page causing missing areas of print), but
putting a new cartridge in fixes it. When I'm feeling cheap, I live
with the streaks until I start getting outages.
