Thank you! That's really useful, and I might be
able to get it going now.
I was interested to see the mention of some Altera CPLDs on one of the
pages, as I just happen to have a boxful of those.
Altera chips are easier to program. Just look for "byteblaster cable" on
the net, you'll see that you'll need only a '245 and some resistors.
