don't think I ever heard who did the x86 version.
Was it done by next ?
I honestly don't know. I had very little contact with it after the
x86 port was done.
Several years ago I got an Elonex PC running NS 3.3 from a former NeXT
employee along with a Cube and Color Slab. Whether this means NeXT did the
port themselves or not I don't know. I never got the machine to run
successfully.
As far as I know, Canon was the only one to design a PC specially for
running NeXTStep. A friend of mine got a Canon object.station 41 when it
was new and also a used Slab at the same time and I got to play with
them for just a few minutes.
Elonex in the UK built the NextStation in mid-1994; it shipped with NS 3.2
initially. I can't find my copy of the Personal Computer World issue which
reviewed it, so I can't be any more specific than that...
