I find that (at least in the US) there are a few things that
are required to be sent by fax, because there are prohibitions
against sending things like personal medical information via
email (but of course, no one has ever intercepted a fax). I
find that I have to send a fax to a bank about once every
other year. I usually do it via a web-to-fax gateway, and it
probably gets received directly by a computer on the other
end after being transmitted via a less secure method than the
HTTPS upload used to send from my computer.
