One more observation. I've read a lot of other people's code in my
lifetime and one thing that stands out in sharp contrast from the run-
of-the-mill awuful stuff is that the narrative commentary to good,
inspired code is always well-formed, grammatically correct and often
witty.
I agree. There's nothing like skimming through source code and finding
comments that reference a TV programme (or something else popular) from the
time the code was written, especially if it's funny.
On a relevant note, last week I added code to my first amiga demo (that I
hope to release next month) that added double-buffering for a particular
screen (the onscreen object would flicker every few seconds without it). One
of the parts to the double-buffering referenced a label called
".not_logical_jim" (clearly a Star Trek reference, incase someone here
doesn't get it).
